DEPART BY C!RCA

Overview

This was such an inspiring and utterly stunning project to be part of.

I remember my first meeting ahead of working on the project, briefed by Michael Trainor – LeftCoast’s Artistic Director at the time – they needed someone to scope out locations for an outdoor circus, inspired by the ancient Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice and originally set in a graveyard. I mean, I couldn’t believe my luck and I knew this was going to be right up my street and it didn’t disappoint.

Having the opportunity to work alongside the internationally acclaimed Circa – Australia’s ‘Rock Stars of Circus’ and their Artistic Director, the visionary Yaron Lifschitz, was a thrilling experience.

Having spent what felt like months alone wandering around deserted spaces, taking photographs of derelict cemeteries and eerie landscapes, Circa settled on the beautifully historic and visually stunning Stanley Park which was transformed into the underworld for this presentation of the utterly spellbinding show.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of this job was to form a 150 strong choir of members of the local community in an engaging and highly rewarding rehearsal process resulting in live performances where they sang the shows mesmerizing, original score by Spitalfields Music as audiences were invited on an immersive journey in to the underworld.

Watch the video on the right to see just how important a project like this can be to places and people. And you might just spot me along the way too!
